Features photographs (some captioned) of West Kerry and the Blasket Islands, including views of the coastline and beaches, cottage interiors and exteriors, farms, gathering turf, a woman spinning by her fireside, men with currachs, walking groups on holiday and Tomás Ó Criomhthain, taken outside his home on the Great Blasket Island in 1934. Also included are views of Dublin, notably the quays and swans under the bridges on the Liffey.

Born in Dublin to parents from Cork and Kerry, O'Muircheartaigh worked as a civil servant in the Department of Education. He was active in Conradh na Gaelige, serving as its President 1955-59. His chief interest and spare time occupation was photograhing life in the west of Ireland, the people, customs and landscapes. Many of his photographs appeared on the front cover of the Gaelic League monthly 'Feasta'.
