Description:Letter from James Caulfeild, 1st Earl of Charlemont, (1728- 1799) in Dublin to Lady Louisa Conolly concerning his difficulties in deciding with regards to the Bill of Attainder against Lord Edward Fitzgerald; with much regret he feels he must favour it - ‘If it shall be thought proper to lay a petition before the Lords, I am still ready and willing to present it, as I must assuredly am to do every thing within the limits of my powers. We have been surprised by the intelligence that the French have landed at Killala. They are however only three frigates with seven hundred men, a few cannon, and some small arms'.
